Terilekst

TERILEKST (Turrie "ven" Leks) was born in may 1979 in Ede (The Netherlands). In 1990 he and his fam moved to Blomberg (Germany), there he got in touch with rap music and the HipHop culture. At the age of 12 Turrie was asked by a rap/dance crew called: The Quest Of B, to join the group as a dancer. Very soon he also wanted to rap, listening to NWA, The Geto Boys, PE, Big Daddy Kane, LL, DITC. At the age of 14 he joined the German rapgroup True Colors. They did a lot of shows at different places. In the summer of 1994 Terilekst and his fam moved back to Holland. Six years Turrie would operate from Venray. He quited the dancing and rapping in English, from now on he wrote his lyrics in Dutch plus he started to make beats on the PC, first in MOD-EDIT(8bit/mono) later in Scream/Impulse/Modplug tracker. Nowadays he mostly works in REASON. In 1996 he formed the rapgroup "IN RAP & ROER" with MC Zachte G, together they performed at local spots. In 1998 he went solo, travelling to many parties & places where they held open mics. He also met rapper Spacekees that year after some diss-cussions online. Turrie recorded his full length promo cd ("album") "Voor De Medevens" in "De Ruimte Van Kees". They released it in May 1999 independantly. It received good reviews by the Dutch musicmagz and hiphopscene. On the CD you hear a lot of guest mc's such as Tenshun, Spacekees, MijnWerker 32, Seb & more. Terilekst started to perform more often with Spacekees. On shows with Extince, Brainpower, The Proov, LTH, Unspoken Heard etc. Did freestyles on mixtapes and on the worldwide famous FO DA HEADS mixcdees by DJ Krylon. One of those "freestyle tracks" called "Rap Recent" became an underground banger in 2000. DJ Krylon was also busy settin' up a collabo between Sweden & Holland. Chol from Headtag and the crew Stacs Of Stamina (except Bashie) came to Amsterdam. In Eindhoven at SpaceKees crib they recorded two tracks: an English one and an Dutch-Swedish one. 'Cause of some reasons the project never made it to the vinyl. February 2001, the independant compilation album "Personal Revolutions" got released. The joint "Goede Voornemens" featuring Kas & Spacekees was the only song in Dutch on that disc and circulated heavily through Napster :) (The remix by Presto came later on the DSC (Dutch Swedish Connection) Compilation by Hysteric(a Dutch guy who lives in Sweden)) In april 2001 Turrie won the Dutchhiphop.com battle in his old hometown Ede. He hosts shows, every 1nce in a while he is part of the jury at MC battles. Also has given workshops a few years on primary schools, and in libraries during "De Dag Van De Poëzie" (The Day Of The Poetry) Autumn 2001, Terilekst met Castro (A Belgian MC). This downsouth neighbour was about to release his first 12"/maxi-cd "Herfst 2057". The B-side became a track featuring Spacekees & Terilekst on a Terilekst production. This song "Eens", got a lot of airplay on both Belgian & Dutch radiostations. Terilekst, together with Spacekees, joined the biggest talentshow of the Netherlands "De Grote Prijs Van Nederland", they made it to the final round in the Paradiso but didn't win it. 2002, Spacekees & Terilekst were featured with 2 tracks on the rap compilation "HOMEGROWN-Dope Dutch HipHop Talent" (NPI/TopNotch). 1 of the 2 tracks also came out on another compilation called "Alle 18 Dope" (Virgin) Together they were interviewed for section: Next generation in the book "Van Brooklyn Naar Breukelen - 20 years of HipHop in The Netherlands". By then almost everyone was thinking they were that new duo group. They ARE the dynamic duo but still Space & Turrie were solo emcees...working on a collabo album. Theatre group MADE IN DA SHADE came with a project to promote one of their plays "DiggyDotCom2". The 12"/maxisingle-cd PERSONALITIES/LOVELY came out in october 2002. A month later the videoclip of Personalities reached THE BOX & MTV (MTV RAW). In April 2003, Castro will drop his debut album. Terilekst will feature twice on it, both lyrically & with sum beats. Brainpower released sum info on the net, that he drops his 3rd single (of his 2nd album). He doesn't know which A-side he's gonna choose, but the b-side will be the (1 year ago recorded) possecut featuring Skate The Great, Murth The Man-o-Script, Terilekst & more... Turrie is releasing his 12 himself. Half of the stack will be distributed by Redrum Records. Very soon...
