Boxed In^(UK)

Boxed In is de artiestennaam van Oli Bayston. De man heeft een al een fameuze cv als songschrijver en producer voor tal van artiesten zoals The 2 Bears, Charlie Boyer and the Voyeurs, Rosie Lowe, Lianna Li Havas, Lily Allen en The Bohicas. Nu doet hij het dus ook solo en voor zichzelf als Boxed In. Hij brengt in zijn nummers zijn twee grote muzikale liefdes samen, namelijk Krautrock en House. Dit in combinatie met zijn ongelooflijk talent als songwriter resulteert dan ook in een ijzersterk album vol oorwormen en popsingles. Oli Bayston stopte Can, Cluster en Neu! in één potje met Pepe Bradock en Theo Parrish, schudde er eens mee en er is een straffe popplaat uitgekomen.

Over zijn artiestennaam weet hij nog het volgende te zeggen: "the name was inspired by Francis Bacon’s painting ‘Head VI’, in which the figure of a pope is depicted screaming while ‘boxed in’. The philosopher and art critic Gilles Deleuze wrote: “And the scream, Bacon's scream, is the operation through which the entire body escapes through the mouth. To me, I see that as the definition of singing and song writing,” says Oli, “When you write a song it’s like an account of your feelings escaping from within.”
