Cut Chemist^(US)

Producer en DJ Lucas MacFadden, alias Cut Chemist, gaat al meer dan twintig jaar mee. Na zijn loopbaan als DJ in de hiphopband Jurrasic 5, ging hij zijn eigen weg. In de jaren negentig schudde hij allerhande projecten uit zijn mouw, zoals enkele collabs met DJ Shadow achter de turntables, het fabriceren van samples en scratches voor de ska punkband Less Than Jake, en enkele performances met het funk/latin sextet Ozomatli. 

Zijn eerste solo album The Audience's Listening dateert van 2006, en toont MacFadden op zijn meest diverse dag: "Lucas "Cut Chemist" Macfadden, trip-hop pioneer and former Jurassic 5 DJ, covers a great deal of ground on his solo debut. Between the introductory words - "Start remembering what you hear" - and the final ones - "The record's over" - he gets through a dizzying number of samples and almost as many genres." (The Guardian).

Na ontelbare releases, guest appearances, singles, remixes, en producties, komt de man in 2018 met zijn eerste album in twaalf jaar aanstormen. Die Cut zal onder meer gastrollen van o.a. Deantoni Parks (The Mars Volta), de rapper Biz Markie, actrice Erika Christensen (Parenthood), en tUnE-yArDs bevatten. De single "Work My Mind", waar Jurassic 5-lid Chali 2na aan meewerkte loste Cut al in het najaar van 2017. 

Zelf ziet hij zijn nieuwste muziek als radicaal anders in vergelijking met zijn voorgaand werk: ""This is the death of a musical identity and the birth of another, it isn’t just the cut-and-paste style anymore. I’m collaborating with more musicians and sampling less. This is different. The content is emotionally heavier, even though it’s still fun. It harks back to the energy you can share with live musicians rather than being a DJ alone on stage. I wanted to capture that with this style of music.” - Hip Hop DX
