Geboren in 1936 (jawel, dat leest u goed, vlotjes de 75 jaar gepasseerd) heeft Ebo Taylor reeds een indrukwekkende carrière als gitarist, componist en bandleader achter de rug. Een greep daaruit; de legendarische Broadway Band en Uhuru Dance Band, producties en nummers geschreven voor o.a. C.K. Mann, Patt Thomas en Papa Yankson. In de jaren ’60 beland hij samen met Fela Kuti in Londen en werkt daar ook met hem samen. Ebo Taylor is misschien wel één van de meest bepalende Ghanese muzikanten geweest met zijn mix van highlife, afrobeat en traditionele klanken. In 2010 kwam Love And Death uit, een gedeeltelijke heruitgave van Conflict (1980), en internationale erkenning volgde. Label Strut lijkt er inmiddels haar missie van te hebben gemaakt om vergeten cultfiguren uit de wereldmuziekscene bekend te maken bij een breed publiek. Eerder brachten ze al albums uit van Mulatu Astatke, Lloyd Miller en The Heliocentrics (Goddeau). Eind april 2012 volgde eerste studioalbum (!) Appia Kwa Bridge.I really got into this one. A very tasty offering from Ebo Taylor, and a classy dose of “Highlife,” with traditional Fante songs, war chants and children’s rhymes peppered throughout. A triumphant return for the Ghanaian “Highlife” guitar legend. Six new compositions among the sparkling eight tracks. Super production too.
