Jay Electronica^(US)

In 2007 werd Jay Electronica opgemerkt door zijn 15-minuten durende sample van Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind genaamd “Eternal Sunshine (The Pledge)”. Sindsdien laat de uit New Orleans afkomstige rapper slechts sporadisch van zich horen. Eigen singles releaset Jay Electronica bijvoorbeeld met mondjesmaat, maar hij heeft wel al samenwerkingen met onder andere Erykah Badu, Just Blaze, Mos Def en Nas op zijn naam staan. Sinds 2010 mag hij ook J.Cole en trawanten vergezellen bij Jay-Z’s label Roc Nation, waar zijn debuut ondertussen al bijna vijf jaar in de maak is. MTV doopte hem onlangs “The Most Mysterious Rapper In The World” en ook Roc Nation gebruikt deze frase graag als trademark: “From floating in the Dead Sea or better yet touching the Sphinx, standing on Mount Everest, praying with the Monks in India or traveling illegally into Mexico, all manifested not because of what he could pay or because of who he is but because he was seeking the answer to the most critical question that has been asked for centuries by Alchemist, Artist, Magi, Sages and Wizards “What is truth?” The answer he found: “The truth is the best of what is in me, the best in us all”” We zullen hem dan maar op zijn woord geloven.
