Jonathan Wilson vestigde zich begin jaren 2000 met een analoge opnamestudio in Laurel Canyon, de legendarische plek in de Hollywood Hills waar in de jaren '60 en '70 artiesten rondhingen als The Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, Jim Morrison, Joni Mitchell en Frank Zappa. Wilson werkte als producer en muzikant samen met Elvis Costello, Jackson Browne, Will Oldham en Father John Misty. Zijn jamsessies bliezen de legendarische Laurel Canyon muziekscene eigenhandig nieuw leven in.In 2007 bracht hij soloalbum Frankie Ray uit; in 2011 volgde soloalbum Gentle Spirit met een heleboel samenwerkingen: o.m. Chris Robinson, Gary Louris, en Andy Cabic en Otto Hauser van Vetiver waren betrokken. Ook Fanfare uit 2013 staat bol van de samenwerkingen: Roy Harper schreef mee aan een aantal songs, en er zijn samenwerkingen met David Crosby, Graham Nash, Jackson Brown en Father John Misty, en bandmembers van Wilco en Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers.Fanfare is the sort of album Jonathan Wilson was bound to make, immaculately crafted and perfectly defined.
