Polysics

Meet Japan’s hippest import! POLYSICS! POLYSICS have developed a following with trendsetters in Japan, UK and Europe. Noted for their wild costumes and pulsing energetic live shows, they perform ‘technicolor pogo punk’ in a variety of languages including Japanese, English and their very own ‘space language’. Officially, the band was formed in 1997 in Tokyo, Japan when young Hayashi, inspired by Devo, began making music under the name POLYSICS. Over time, Hayashi recruited other young musicians - Kayo, Fumi and Yano – to join POLYSICS. Their added influences brought inspiration and a fresh force to the band. POLYSICS simply wanted to create new music with “inflectional electronic sound that sticks and repeats itself in one’s head” along with “distorted guitar noise”. Since the late 1990’s POLYSICS have lead the way for pop punk hipsters in their native Japan while building a following in other countries. Their thrashing, riotous shows began to sell-out venues in Japan. Inspired by audience response, POLYSICS signed to an independent record label, UK PROJECT, in 1999. They released “1st P” that year and, due to demand, quickly followed it with “A.D.S.R.M!” In 2000, Ki/oon Records / Sony Music Entertainment (Japan) Inc. came calling. POLYSICS received a great deal of support from the label and released “NEU” that same year embarking on an extensive tour. Several successful releases followed yearly and the independent spirit of POLYSICS music continued to attract new fans around the world. Highlights for the band include performing with Nick Beggs of Kajagoogoo, touring the United States three times and meeting with their heroes Devo. Tofu Records executives caught the underground vibe of POLYSICS and quickly signed the band for the United States. In 2005, POLYSICS come for their 4th US tour and a new disc “POLYSICS OR DIE!!!!” will be released on Tofu Records. Expanding all over the world, POLYSICS continue to fuse the essence of pop and punk.
