Steve Mason kennen we allemaal (nuja) als de grondlegger en zanger van de legendarische Schotse folktronicaband The Beta Band. De cultgroep blies zijn laatste adem uit in 2004. Sindsdien leek de zanger even op de dool. Zijn nieuwe band His Black Affair werd niet zo goed onthaald als hij gewend was en Mason leek het spoor even bijster. Tot hij aan zijn soloproject begon. Steve Mason's solodebuut Boys Outside (2010), met beklijvende low-tempo electropop, werd meteen enthousiast onthaald. Drie jaar later volgde opvolger Monkey Minds in the Devil's Time. Met deze conceptplaat bevestigde Mason zijn kwaliteiten als solo-artiest. Dit jaar keert hij terug met zijn derde solo album Meet the Humans. Zijn sterkste album sinds The Beta Band, als we Drowned In Sound mogen geloven.Mason has gone back to basics and has written a catchy, poignant collection of songs that are reminiscent of his Beta Band and King Biscuit Time guises, whilst never sounding like a nostalgia act (...). At times it sounds like the fourth Beta Band album, but in a weird way it's better than that. The jokes are more subtle and don’t get in the way of the songs(...)".
