Valley Maker^(US)

Singer-songwriter Austin Crane is een geval apart. Als doctoraatstudent Sociale Geografie is hij in werk én muziek bezig met existentiële vragen en metaforen rond tijd, migratie, connectie, grenzen en politiek. Zijn eerste, titelloze album was een groot succes op Bandcamp, maar deed bovenal dienst als zijn thesis (!).

Inspiratie vindt hij bij Jason Molina (Songs: Ohia), Gillian Welch en Bill Fay. Het nieuwe album Rhododendrons (kwam uit in oktober) werd deels opgenomen met producer/engineer Chaz Bear (Toro Y Moi), en deels met producer/engineer Trevor Spencer (Father John Misty, Fleet Foxes). De folksongs komen perfect tot hun recht met enkel een stem en gitaar, vol verrassende ritmes en arrangementen.
